A Year of Running + Gardening |
2010: In the grips of a Quarterlife crisis, I'm striving to both commit and find meaning through training for a marathon and becoming a first time gardener. 2011: Second marathon. Second (dead) garden. Higher stakes. 2012: Another marathon. No garden. Have I bitten off more than I can chew? Probably. Only time will tell. |
April 17: I tried to get my gardening game on early this year. I felt like I was behind last year and I wasn’t going to let it happen again. I cleaned up the beds and cut in a little organic veggie fertilizer and planted beets, peas, onions, potatoes, scallions, and radishes.
In a twist of weather, I was actually probably a touch early this year.
Also, I must have missed an onion last year because this guy was already up and at ‘em. He kind of demonstrates one of the reasons I garden. We’re not easily surprised, amazed or moved anymore, but there’s something magical about this gardening thing.
PS I replanted him and he seems to be doing okay.
