A Year of Running + Gardening |
2010: In the grips of a Quarterlife crisis, I'm striving to both commit and find meaning through training for a marathon and becoming a first time gardener. 2011: Second marathon. Second (dead) garden. Higher stakes. 2012: Another marathon. No garden. Have I bitten off more than I can chew? Probably. Only time will tell. |
I spent the better part of a day earlier this week sketching out my garden for the upcoming season. The major considerations were crop rotation, sunlight, and results from last season. Also, I decided to have planters on the back deck for the herbs because of convenience.
Twin Cities peeps: If you’re interested in gardening, but don’t have the space or a yard at all, I recommend going to Yard to Gardens and posting there so you can get hooked up with somebody that has a garden. It’s what I did last year and how my garden ended up in Aaron’s yard.
Fun tidbit: We ended up getting on so well, that I determined that we’re in a gromance (like bromance, get it???!).
PS Despite the failure that was the cauliflower plant, I’m giving it another go. PSS I am not going to attempt to grow a watermelon plant, poser or otherwise.
This is the kind of garden organization I aspire to. This is only my second year of gardening, so I’m sort of flying by...
